Dhiffushi
About the destination
Why Go to Dhiffushi?
Dhiffushi is the perfect place for those who want to see the real Maldives without overpaying for private resorts. This local island in the Kaafu Atoll (North Male) is known as the "Sunrise Island" and offers an authentic Maldivian experience: white-sand beaches, vibrant underwater life, and a cozy atmosphere. The main advantage is that Dhiffushi is accessible to travelers with different budgets: guesthouses operate here, and vacation prices are significantly lower than on resort islands.
Dhiffushi: What to See and Do
Beaches for Swimming
The island has three designated bikini beaches (North Beach, Dhiffushi Inn Beach, Rashuhiyaa Beach) where you can sunbathe and swim in open clothing. Elsewhere on the island, modest attire is required in accordance with local traditions.
Snorkeling and Diving
Dhiffushi is a great place to explore the underwater world. Boat excursions are organized to Turtle Point (turtles), Nurse Shark Point (nurse sharks), coral gardens, and the house reef. For divers, courses and dives with an instructor are available.
Sunset Dolphin Cruise
A popular one-and-a-half-hour sunset trip to watch wild dolphins. Cost: around $30 per person.
Visit Sandbanks
A classic Maldives experience — a day on a sandbank in the middle of the ocean. The excursion lasts about 2 hours and costs from $30 per person.
Stingray Feeding
Every evening around 7:00–8:00 PM on the north beach, locals feed stingrays — a sight you can see for free.
Fishing with Locals
Day or night fishing using traditional Maldivian methods. The catch will be grilled for you.
Night Sky and Bioluminescence
Due to the lack of light pollution, Dhiffushi offers excellent stargazing, and sometimes plankton glows in the waves.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Dhiffushi?
The best time to travel is the dry season from November to April (northeast monsoon): lots of sun, calm sea. From May to October is the rainy season, but it's still warm, and accommodation prices are lower. Shoulder months (October and May) are also good: fewer tourists and acceptable weather.
